It was a passion for introducing Italian aperitivo to the city of Leith that saw the founding of Bittersweet, an innovative restaurant and bar founded by two Italian brothers Fabrizio and Simon Cioffi.
The bar and restaurant, based in the buzzing port of Leith in Scotland, serves cuisine and beverages inspired by the rich traditions of Italy.
And it is proving a popular destination with Tripadvisor reviews calling it “a hidden gem in Leith” and a “Fabulous spot for food and drinks.”
Fabrizio, the director of the local artisanal distillery, Old Poison, crafts in-house fermented delights such as mead wine and kombucha, while Simone, the chef, blends traditional Italian dishes with the vibrant flavours found in Italian street food.
In addition to its signature aperitivo, it also curates an extensive selection of aperitif wines and spirits from around the world.
Cocktails on the menu have included Velvety Espresso Martini made with cold brew coffee rum, bittersweet espresso blend, sugar, velvety espresso emulsion and the Mandarin Mai Tai made with Bs Rum, Amaretto, orgeat and mandarin.
