AMARO BAR

Kensington, London

Kensington’s modern take on the classic cocktail bar

This modern neighbourhood cocktail bar is the perfect place for an evening tipple in west London. Five-star professionals add a contemporary twist to classic mixology through fine drinks and light dishes in an intimate setting.

The bar opened in 2021 with former head mixologist at the Savoy Elon Soddu at the helm.

The Sardinian rose through the ranks at the hotel to become head bartender of its Beaufort Bar in 2018, before being promoted to head mixologist of all the Savoy’s bars at restaurants in 2020.

Fancy dress costumes and football shirts are prohibited, and dogs are welcomed as long as they’re on their best behaviour. Reservations are accepted but there is always room for walk-ins.

At around £15 per drink, cocktails include a Mango Bellini, with wild turkey bourbon, mango and bubbles, and Peach 76, which combines Haku vodka, amaretto, almond, grappa, lemon and Prosecco.

For guests seeking a gold-studded experience there are also vintage cocktails on offer. At £75 the 1960 vodka martini is the cheapest, with the 1980 Boulevardier the most expensive at £190 per drink. It includes Four Roses 60 Bott. 1980, Antica Formula Bott. 1970 and Campari Bott. 1970.

Smoked almonds, burrata, charcuterie or a cheese selection can pair with the drinks for a stellar experience at the venue which opens Tuesday through to Sunday.

Drinks are served from a black granite bar which can seat 10, with space for a further 28 guests at the tables. A selection of Italian wine, champagne, spirits and liqueurs are also available.

Customers can also learn to make cocktails themselves at masterclasses, where mixologists share the secret of how to make a perfect drink.
